TExBioMed
The Training and Experiential Learning in Biomedical Informatics (TExBioMed) Summer Institute is a unique program that initially started at the University of Texas at Arlington and is now being continued at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Led by Principal Investigator and Program Director Dr. Gabriela Wilson, a distinguished leader in the field of health informatics. This research training program is strategically designed to meet the future needs of the informatics workforce and ultimately expand the talent pool. 12 weeks long: May 12 – August 1, 2025

Applications will open on November 15, 2024, and close on February 15, 2025

11 students/year will be selected for 3 consecutive Summers (i.e., Summer 2025, 2026, and 2027).

Curriculum
Includes didactic lectures and case studies that will provide a comprehensive overview of the major areas of Biomedical Informatics/Data/Science: Bioinformatics, Genomics/Proteomics, Bioengineering, and Health and Public Health Informatics.
Elibibility
TExBioMed is designed to attract students from underrepresented groups and programs with limited research in biomedical informatics/data science.

Have completed at least one year toward their academic degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Have demonstrated a satisfactory academic performance (GPA >= 3.0)

Have completed at least three basic life sciences and physical sciences courses and two in mathematics, computer science, and/or engineering

Submit a personal essay describing your interest in completing their degree in Data Science, Biomedical Informatics-related disciplines

Applicants should be US citizens or permanent residents
